Diablo 3 beta slated for Q3 2011, release in Q4

Several sources are reporting that Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaim announced on Blizzard-Activision’s quarterly financial conference call that the external beta for Diablo 3 will open in Q3 of this year. That’s calendar quarter, not fiscal quarter, by the way, meaning that the external beta could begin as early as July 1 (but as late as September 30). Internal “friends and family” beta testing has also reportedly already begun. New Star Trek trailer released!

Supposedly, they were supposed to run the trailer for Star Trek XI before the new Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, but having gone to see the movie this weekend, I can add myself to the list of people whose screening did not include this geeky treat. However, the trailer has been released online, downloadable in standard definition as well as 720p and 1080p HD. The site seems to insist upon the most recent version of Quicktime (or Quicktime Alternative, which I highly recommend), which gave me some difficulties in downloading the trailer, but once I updated, everything was cool. Thinkgeek had a contest on Twitter today: tweet your geekiest childhood memory, win a $25 gift certificate.
